Angela Steffen was born in Dannenberg, Germany in 1979. She lived in Ras Tanura, Saudi-Arabia until the Gulf War in 1990 when the family moved back to Germany. After some basic studies in Graphic Design she continued studying animation from 2001 to 2002 at the Animation-School-Hamburg, and then at the Institute of Animation, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, graduating in 2009. Whilst at the Filmakademie she developed a personal and poetic style culminating in Lebensader, her diploma film. Her previous films Wie Ich Mich Traf and Loko Mare won several prizes, such as Germany´s Next Generation Filmmaker Prize in Berlin, the PISAF Memorial Prize in Puchon, South Korea, the Heinrich-Heine Prize in Düsseldorf and the prize for „The most poetic animated composition, 2006“ at Filmfestival 2ANNAS, Riga/Latvia. Lebensader has been screened at renowned festivals around the world, for example in Cannes, Ottawa, Annecy, Zagreb and Hiroshima, and has gathered these prizes: - Ottawa International Animation Festival 2009, Canada: Prize for Best Student Film |
